Coronavirus,Nigeria and 350 ICU beds

Coronavirus , a pandemic without any cure  which is creating havoc in many developed countries of Europe and America while Governments across Africa are rushing to reinforce measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus fearing that fragile health systems will be swiftly overwhelmed if the disease(Coronavirus) spreads beyond a small number of cases on the continent.

 

There is also a country called Nigeria in the same continent which is  home of largest number of people leaving in extreme poverty. The Population density of the country is very high and health facilities access to people are equally low . The most surprising thing is the country have just 350 ICU bed for 200million people .

 

“Our health system is not as strong as we’d like it to be to fight Coronavirus,” said Chikwe Ihekweazu, the head of Nigeria’s Centre for Disease Control. “It is because we are a bit worried about our capacity to deal with a large outbreak of Coronavirus that we are focused so intensively on prevention and early detection.”

 

 

 

 

 

Irony is some people call Nigeria "Black CHINA " for its highest GDP growth in the African continent for so many years  purely driven by exploding population , While China was epicenter of Coronavirus but somehow managed to control it but if similar situation arises in Nigeria (even 10% of it) there is going to be floods of corpse in the street .  

 

Currently there is only 288 cases and just 7 death happened due to Coronavirus in Nigeria which is hard to believe but our heart  wanted it to be completely true since higher number of cases due to Coronavirus will not going to help by 350 ICU beds which is 0.9 hospital beds per 1,000 people less than the global average of 2.3.

So Nigeria is not only running out of time but also the resources to fight Coronavirus . We can just hope in the end of day everything will be alright .
